Maple Island Guide: Every Quest, Map and Monster Before Victoria Island
Every character in MapleStory Classic World starts as a Beginner on Maple Island, then moves on to Victoria Island (Grand Launch Release Notes). This Maple Island guide covers the whole island: each map, every quest and its rewards, the monsters you will meet, the shops, and how to leave.
The quests here add up to 1,075 EXP, 300 mesos, a free weapon, a free hat and a stack of food.
Map of the island
Maple Island has two streets. Maple Road runs from Mushroom Town in the west down to the harbor at Southperry. Rainbow Street covers the town of Amherst and the fields and forests around it. You can see both on the Maple Island world map.
Maple Road
- Mushroom Town - West Entrance: where you start, with Heena and Sera.
- Mushroom Town (two maps; the second has Nina) and Mushroom Town Townstreet.
- East Entrance to Mushroom Town: your first monsters.
- Snail Hunting Ground I, II and III.
- A Split Road: the fork between Southperry and Amherst.
- Southperry and the Southperry Armor Store.
Rainbow Street
- The Field West of Amherst, the hub for six side maps: In a Small Forest, Dangerous Forest, Mushroom Garden, Snail Garden, Hunting Ground Middle of the Forest I and II.
- Amherst, with the Amherst Weapon Store, Amherst Department Store and Amherst Townstreet.
- Snail Field of Flowers, reached from Amherst Townstreet.
- The Field East of Amherst and the Tomato Field.
Need a path between two towns? The routes pages list each step, for example Mushroom Town to Southperry and Southperry to Amherst.

A few notes on what each quest asks for:
- Sera’s Mirror. Fetch Sera’s Mirror from Sera and bring it back to Heena. It’s the game’s first lesson in talking to NPCs.
- Roger’s Apple. Roger gives you a Roger’s Apple. Eat it from the Use tab of your inventory to recover some HP.
- Todd’s How-to-Hunt. Defeat 3 Tutorial Jr. Sentinels and bring 3 Jr. Sentinel Shellpiece to Peter.
- Sam’s Suggestion. Defeat 10 Snails, then report to Mai at A Split Road. This opens Mai’s Training.
- Mai’s Training. Defeat 10 Blue Snails, 10 Shrooms and 5 Red Snails. Her final test is a single Orange Mushroom.
- Letter for Lucas. Carry Maria’s Letter to Lucas in Amherst, then bring Lucas’s Letter back. The reward list has seven hats: Brown Skullcap, Green Skullcap, and the Red, Black, Green, Yellow and Blue Headbands. Maria later asks, “Are you using the hat I gave you?”
- Biggs’s Collection of Items. Hand in 10 Blue Snail Shell and 1 Orange Mushroom Cap.
- Pio’s Collecting Recycled Goods. Break wooden boxes around Amherst and bring Pio 2 Rusty Screw and 2 Old Wooden Board.
- Rain’s Maple Quiz. Seven quizzes in a row, worth 490 EXP in total. See the Rain’s Maple Quiz quest line.
Monsters
Maple Island has six named monsters, all between Level 1 and Level 8.
| Monster | Level | Max HP | EXP | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tutorial Jr. Sentinel | 1 | 30 | 1 | East Entrance to Mushroom Town only |
| Snail | 1 | 45 | 2 | Snail Hunting Grounds I–III and 10 Rainbow Street maps |
| Blue Snail | 2 | 51 | 4 | Snail Hunting Grounds II–III, A Split Road and 9 Rainbow Street maps |
| Shroom | 3 | 62 | 6 | A Split Road, The Field West of Amherst, In a Small Forest, Mushroom Garden, Hunting Ground Middle of the Forest I and II |
| Red Snail | 4 | 68 | 8 | Snail Hunting Ground III, A Split Road and 9 Rainbow Street maps |
| Orange Mushroom | 8 | 142 | 15 | The Field West of Amherst, In a Small Forest, Dangerous Forest, Mushroom Garden, Hunting Ground Middle of the Forest II, Snail Field of Flowers, The Field East of Amherst, Tomato Field |
The Snail Hunting Grounds build up one step at a time: Snails only on I, Blue Snails added on II, and Red Snails on III. The Rainbow Street maps mix everything together. Orange Mushrooms, at 15 EXP each, are the strongest monsters on the island. Mai’s last test asks you to defeat one, so gain a few levels before you take them on.
Shops and NPCs
Maple Island has three shops:
- Pan, Armor Seller, in the Southperry Armor Store.
- Sid, Weapon Seller, in the Amherst Weapon Store.
- Lucy, Grocer, in the Amherst Department Store. In her words, “You definitely need potions to travel.”
Many other NPCs give tips with no quest attached. Robin on Snail Hunting Ground I explains attacking and picking up items. Peter at the East Entrance says, “You should train well before continuing your journey.” In Southperry, Yoona says she has been training with Mai, and Bari says a few tree branches “could be used to build a boat that sails across the sea.”
Leaving for Victoria Island
Southperry is your way off the island. Once you finish his quest, Pio in Amherst tells you: “When you get to Level 10, you can become a Magician, Bowman, Warrior, or Thief. You can’t do it on this island though. You’ll need to take a ship from Southperry and head to Victoria Island.”
Southperry’s map description says the same: “A harbor down south. From here, you can travel to a much bigger island.” The NPC to talk to there is Shanks, who introduces himself with “I’m the captain, dang it! Don’t look down on me!” and “I’ll take you anywhere you want to go.”
On the other side is Lith Harbor: “A port city on Victoria Island. From here, you can travel to different cities.” Lith Harbor also has several Lv 8 quests, which are covered in Quests Worth Doing.
Before you sail, finish whichever Maple Island quests you have left, because the hats, the Fruit Knife and the eggs are all free. Then read the Beginner’s Guide to choose your job at Level 10, and see Training Spots by Level or the Level 1–10 monster list for where to train next.
