Best Places for a Bowman to Train from Level 1–30 in MapleStory Classic World

Published All guides

Bowmen pick monsters off from a distance, and Henesys connects straight to several open hunting maps that suit that style. This guide covers the best places for a Bowman to train in MapleStory Classic World: Maple Island first, then the Henesys hills, the Ant Tunnel past Sleepywood and finally Pig Park, which is only a couple of maps from town.

Level 1–10: Maple Island

Every character starts as a Beginner on Maple Island and moves on to Victoria Island later (Nexon’s Grand Launch Release Notes). The Maple Island guide lists every quest there, and these are the monsters to work through:

Here are some quick quests to pick up on the way:

Once you’re close to 10, the fields around Amherst with Orange Mushrooms (Level 8) are the best place to level. When you’re ready, Shanks in Southperry takes you to Victoria Island.

Olaf’s training in Lith Harbor

Olaf in Lith Harbor gives two quests from level 8: Olaf’s First Training (8 Stumps and 8 Slimes) and Olaf’s Second Training (8 Pigs and 8 Orange Mushrooms). Each pays 124 EXP and 277 mesos; the first adds 8 Red Potions and 8 Blue Potions, and the second adds 3 Return Scrolls.

1st job advancement at level 10

Bowmen advance with Athena Pierce in the Bowman Instructional School, off Henesys Park (“Do you want to become a bowman?”). Nexon lists her as the level 10 Bowman advancer (Grand Launch Release Notes). Of the four job towns, Henesys is the fewest maps away from Lith Harbor. The Lith Harbor to Henesys route lists the maps.

Best places for a Bowman to train: level 10–15

Henesys opens straight onto several hunting maps. Pigs and Ribbon Pigs are found on the hills, and Green Mushrooms appear on all three Henesys Hunting Grounds.

A Hill West of Henesys is a good first stop: Pigs, Ribbon Pigs and Stumps, two maps from town. Mushroom Garden, just past it, is a quiet map with Orange Mushrooms, Shrooms and Red Snails. On the other side of town, The Forest East of Henesys has Pigs and Ribbon Pigs plus a couple of Blue Mushrooms to try once you’re stronger.

Level 15–20

Green Mushrooms (Level 14) and then Blue Mushrooms (Level 19) carry you to 20.

Henesys Hunting Ground III is three maps from town and mixes Green Mushrooms with Slimes, Orange Mushrooms and Stumps. The Blue Mushroom Forest is named for its Blue Mushrooms and sits one map past The Forest East of Henesys. The Road to the Dungeon, right outside town, also has Blue Mushrooms, but also a few Iron Hogs (Level 28), so don’t wander in at 15. Remember this map: the Bowman Job Instructor waits here at level 30.

Level 20–25

Henesys doesn’t have much for the early 20s, so head down to Sleepywood for the Ant Tunnel.

The path from Henesys goes through The Road to the Dungeon, Henesys Dungeon Entrance and Swampy Land in a Deep Forest. Be careful at the Dungeon Entrance: Stone Golems (Level 56) and Lupins (Level 37) are found there alongside the Slimes and Green Mushrooms. Once you’re in Sleepywood, Ant Tunnel I starts with Horny Mushrooms and a few Zombie Mushrooms, and Ant Tunnel III pairs Zombie Mushrooms with Horny Mushrooms. Stirges (Level 20) join them in Dark Cave and Dangerous Steam.

Level 25–30

You have two good choices here: Iron Hogs just outside Henesys, or Evil Eyes deeper in the Ant Tunnel.

Monster Level HP EXP Maps it’s found on
Iron Hog 28 572 52 Pig Park, Pig Park II
Evil Eye 27 606 50 Deep Ant Tunnel II, Ant Tunnel Park, The Cave of Evil Eye I

Pig Park and Pig Park II are reached through An Empty House next to Henesys, and Iron Hogs (Level 28) are the only monster there, so they’re easy to grind. Don’t follow Pig Park II into Someone Else’s House: Mushmom, one of the six bosses Nexon lists for launch, is found there. If you’re already in the Ant Tunnel, push on to Ant Tunnel Park and The Cave of Evil Eye I for Evil Eyes (Level 27). That also gets you ready for your 2nd job test, as you’ll see below.

1st-job Bowman skills worth knowing

Your skill book is Bowman Basics. In the skills’ own words:

  • Arrow Blow: fires an arrow with power at a single enemy in front of you. Damage 160% at level 1, 240% at level 20.
  • Double Shot: uses 2 arrows to attack up to 2 enemies in front of you. Damage 80% to 120%; needs level 1 Arrow Blow. Bring extra arrows.
  • Power Knockback: pushes several enemies back and “always hits as a critical.” Up to 2 enemies at level 1 and up to 4 at level 15.
  • Critical Shot: Critical Rate +5% at level 1, up to Critical Rate +20% and Critical Damage +15%.
  • The Eye of Amazon: increases attack range for bows and crossbows.
  • Focus: Accuracy and Evasion up for a while (Accuracy +20, Evasion +25 for 300 sec at level 20); needs level 3 The Eye of Amazon.

Getting ready for 2nd job at level 30

Nexon lists two Bowman 2nd jobs at level 30, both from Athena Pierce: Hunter and Crossbowman (Grand Launch Release Notes). Their skill books are Hunter’s Guide and Crossbowman Guide.

The questline The Bowman’s Next Journey works like this:

  1. The Bowman’s Next Journey (level 30, Bowman): talk to Athena Pierce again.
  2. Finding the Instructor: take Athena Pierce’s Letter to the Bowman Job Instructor on The Road to the Dungeon.
  3. Test of Qualification: the instructor sends you into a hidden area to collect 30 Dark Marbles. A hidden map called Ant Tunnel For Bowman has Level 30 Evil Eyes and Zombie Mushrooms in it.
  4. Proof of Qualification: bring The Proof of a Hero back to Athena Pierce.

Steps 1 and 2 give 4,780 EXP each. Evil Eyes and Zombie Mushrooms are what you fought in the Ant Tunnel, so the test should feel familiar.

For more monsters in this range, see monsters by level, 11–20 and 21–30, or the Training Spots by Level guide for the levels after 30.
